www.rodolforoman.com Rodolfo Roman of the internet radio program The Roman Show interviewed CFA President Jorge de la Noval to discuss the the future of Yoislandy Izquierdo's UFC dreams! This was a very interesting call with a lot of behind the scenes negotiation talk. Even though both sides have different views on what is fair, the Florida Combat Network hopes that both party's come to an agreement that is best for the fighter. In my personal opinion, I think the offer of 10% across the board for Yoislandy's first 4 fights in the UFC,(the remainder of his CFA contract) is more than fair. I understand Jorge's passion about building his brand but I don't think you can hold a guy to a lifetime deal like that. Listen to the call yourself and please comment below. We want to hear from other promoters, fighters, and the fans on this one!
Bisping talks mad cash money on Chael! Says he has one testicle and brings up Chael's past PED issues! Bas Rutten breaks down the fight! Bisping looks very confident!
ProElite: Grove vs. Minowaman results and recap:185 lbs.: Kendall Grove defeated Ikuhisa Minowa by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)- Minowaman was able to secure a takedown in the opening round but failed attempts in rounds two and three resulted in him defending submission attempts while in a body triangle from Grove.
Women’s 135 lbs.: Sara McMann defeated Hitomi Akano by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)- Completely one-sided fight in favor of McMann with the only thing saving Akano was the questionable stand ups from the referee. McMann slammed Akano down multiple times throughout the fight.
265 lbs. Grand Prix Semifinal bout: Richard Odoms defeated Jake Heun by 2nd rd. Submission (RNC)- The opening round has more action than the previous tournament bout with back and forth action that Heun got the better. Heun looked gassed in round two and though he got full mount Odoms easily reversed, moved to the back and force Heum to tap.
265 lbs. Grand Prix Semifinal bout: Ryan Martinez defeated Cody Griffin by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)- The entire fight was contested on their feet but there wasn’t as much action as there should have been. Martinez picked Griffin a part with leg kicks and controlled chaos on his way to the tournament finals.
265 lbs.: Pat Cummings defeated Tasi Edwards by 1st rd. Submission (Arm Triangle)- Edwards wasn’t prepared for the wrestling of Cummings and it was a one-sided fight.
185 lbs.: Brent Schermerhorn defeated Kaleo Gambill by 1st rd KO- It was the left hands of Schermerhorn that did in Gambill. Three lefts in a row dropped Gambill and after getting back up it was another left that gave Schermerhorn the knocked out win.

"It's clear to me that if the UFC really wants to mature as a sports entity, it's going to have to be able to shoulder and weather the criticism. I live in Philadelphia, OK? You know, probably outside of New York, maybe Boston, I can't think of a more passionate fan base in terms of, you know, columnists who are critical of the local sports teams, sports radio hosts who bring it every day with no holds barred, pardon the expression, critiques when you know the leaders of their local sports teams don't call those shots the right way. Heck, there were people calling for Andy Reid's head after the third week of the season. But those columnists go to press conferences every week, multiple times a week, they go into the locker rooms and talk to players, they're not banned. You know, they're big boys, they can take the slings & arrows. You know, if you want to really prove that you've arrived then put up with it, you know? That's my take."
"If every story that comes out that's mildly critical or takes a critical view of what you do if every story is to be responded to by somebody coming out with a series of half-truths and, you know, what was rather telling when UFC put two videos out. One of them was a 10 minute video that included interviews with Chuck Liddell, who by the way wouldn't talk to us for our story, Matt Serra who by the way wouldn't talk to us for our story, and Forrest Griffin who we never contacted. But it also included several clips from the interview that I did with Lorenzo... I didn't tally them up but I think he may have made 10 to 15 salient points during the course of that UFC-produced video and easily 7 of them were either in the TV piece that we did or the dot-com piece that we did."
"Look, we're not, it's not our charge to do your public relations. You hire people for that. I had a news director years ago who told me, ‘PR people distort the truth, you report the truth.' You know, that sounds like, you know, I'm trying to say I fight for truth, justice, and the American way but at the end of the day that's all we want, that's what we try to get at - the TRUTH. I know people are out there just convinced that we have this agenda and there are some people that are the conspiracy theorists who think (UFC) signed a deal with FOX so ESPN's out to get them! And that's convenient and it fits into somebody's paradigm but it's just not the way we work, you know?"
"I can tell you, I can reel off the last dozen stories I've done, there have been stories that have been critical of the NFL. We did a piece recently that was critical of the quality of NBA officiating. We put hundreds of millions of dollars in the NBA's pocket every year, you know. This is not about that. It's about journalism, it's what we do, and this is a story that we thought was important to do. Heck, we don't cover Mixed Martial Arts enough, you know, and the few times we do it we get blasted for not doing it in a way that essentially would have us be nothing more than shills of the UFC. That's not the kind of reporter I want to be."
"Look, [Dana] wasn't a big fan of ESPN to begin with. He's still hacked off about a profile that our friends at E:60 did about him some months ago. You know, a very fine reporter Tom Farrey who I work with who I respect a lot did that story. He's still upset about that and that was the reason cited for Dana not agreeing to not do an interview with us, it's just the lingering... I guess ill-will he feels towards ESPN because of that feature. I actually thought that the piece was pretty fair, you know... I thought it was a pretty accurate reflection of a guy who... is, you know, at times profane, at times always passionate... and just... you know, one could argue an extremely aggressive and one might even argue ruthless businessman. But, what are going to do?"
“I’ve never received (feedback) like this, but it is what it is. It’s not going to change how I do what I do. At the end of the day, if you wake up and feel good about what you’ve done and if you feel like you’re true to your moral code, that’s all that really matters, you know. There could be 3,000 people on ESPN.com ripping me for being a lousy reporter, it doesn’t mean that I’m going to buy any of it. You’re never as good as they tell you are and you’re never as lousy as they tell you that you are. Like I said before, you throw out the Russian and the American judge and you settle for what’s left.”
On Ken Shamrock and if he they handled his grudge with the UFC correctly:
"So, there's all sorts of challenges and on some level the UFC's in a good spot because you wind up getting guys who, you know, in their minds and in their characterizations often have baggage. Does Ken Shamrock? Absolutely, he has baggage. Did we report that ... that he was involved in a lawsuit with Zuffa? We did. Did we do it within the context of the story? No. Bob Ley mentioned it after the story but we got the information in there. We actually received a letter from UFC's attorneys not after the piece ran but after a short tease of the story ran and there was one little comment from Ken Shamrock in that piece and I'm not sure who saw that and who decided to pick up the phone and call the lawyers but as soon as somebody saw Shamrock they had their attorneys send us a letter and... look, to be fair, yeah, we should be mentioning that Ken Shamrock was involved in a lawsuit with the UFC and he lost and he owes them legal fees. Does that make what he was saying wrong? You know, I'll leave that up to others to decide. I know what I heard from over two dozen fighters not named Ken Shamrock, so... I felt pretty comfortable with airing what we did as far as what Ken's comments were."
"I would hope that things would quiet down and that we’d all just move on with our lives. Will we continue to cover the sport of Mixed Martial Arts? I don’t think there’s any question that we’re going to.”

DREAM, in a press release, has announced that it has signed a partnership ProElite,a global MMA organization based in Los Angeles ProElite is a global MMA organization that was founded in 2006, headquartered in Los Angeles, California, focused on expansion of MMA competitions in the United States as well as overseas. DREAM event producer Keiichi Sasahara's "I am delighted that I could establish a partnership with ProElite. But winter has long been calls for a period of Japanese martial arts world, late last year," Fedor vs. ISHII "big cards that will be realized, were able to show the strength in the Japanese martial arts and I are. In the future, in close relationship with the international promotion of these, as well as Japan, Asia, and we think that creates an urgent need, including areas such as Pacific Rim markets. The opportunity to exchange players, we would like to efforts to promote synergy with each other, "he said.
Well, this is it! The biggest fight of my life, offered to me on 10 days notice: a No. 1 contender’s fight for the UFC middleweight title. Me against Chael Sonnen, who is one of the best-known fighters in the sport, live on FOX next Saturday night, Jan. 28. A huge fight, huge opportunity for me and my family. I was due to fight Demian Maia, probably the most dangerous Brazilian Jiu-jitsu fighter in the division, if not the entire UFC, on the Chicago card. It was already a short-notice fight, just seven weeks after my fight in Las Vegas where I beat up Jason "Mayhem" Miller. But I was thrilled — honored, actually — to be asked by the UFC to be part of this huge event live on FOX. Then I got a call Tuesday afternoon from UFC president Dana White. I was sitting down having some post-morning workout lunch, talking with my trainers about how well my BJJ defense was looking ahead of my UFC on FOX fight with Maia. We were all rather pleased with how things were going; Maia is basically a 50-times-better version of Miller, but there are similarities. They are very similar fighters in style if not ability, and so the things I worked on for Miller set me up nicely for the Maia fight. I was drilling my submission defense like crazy, and was very confident of putting on a massive performance against Damien. Then “DANA WHITE” popped up on my caller ID. I picked it up and Dana said: “I got some good news for you ... Mark Munoz is hurt, how’d you like to take his place and fight Chael for the No. 1 contender spot?” Dana hadn’t even finished saying Munoz was out before I was planning how to beat Sonnen in my head. I’ve accepted fights on short notice for the UFC throughout my career, but this one is a massive, massive chance for me, and I am very grateful to Dana, (UFC matchmaker) Joe Silva and the UFC. I was already hugely grateful to be asked to fight on FOX, but to fight Chael on FOX ... well, there are hundreds of fighters who would kill for this opportunity, and I would have had to be a fool to turn it down. I’m sure I’ll get blasted for this on the forums, but I feel I could have been the one fighting Chael anyway. We were due to be "The Ultimate Fighter" coaches against each other, but because of things outside our control it didn’t happen, and I’ve won a fight since. I don’t understand how Mark Munoz, as great as he’s been doing lately, was getting Chael instead of me. I feel bad for Mark, but I know he’ll come again and no doubt he will be right back in the mix in this very interesting 185-pound weight class. I feel very sorry for Damien, too, as ours was a great matchup and I am sure he trained hard for me. He’s a class act as a fighter and a person, and I am glad he’s still getting a great fight and opportunity on FOX. Next week, I’m ready to go all guns blazing. A fight is a fight, and at this level anything can happen, but all things being equal, Chael Sonnen cannot knock me out. He can’t submit me, either. The worst that is going to happen is that he will outpoint me and, if I don’t beat him, I didn’t deserve a title shot against Anderson Silva anyway. But my performance against Miller in the opening round, where he held me down for three minutes, wasn’t good enough, and I will need to be better Saturday. I needed to be better than that if I was going to beat Maia, and I will need to be better than that to beat Chael.
